Little salsa dancing island full of mofongo, beaches, and beautiful people! This island is a quick exotic getaway that doesn’t require a passport for US citizens. Whether its Tuesday or Saturday, the party here never ends and the beaches never lose their charm and beauty! #PrayforPuertoRico

Transportation

There is too much greatness on this island not to rent your own vehicle. We did not travel the entire island but heard you can get around the entire island in about 6 hours. Don’t quote us on that it’s just what a local Puerto Rican filled us in on. You will be traveling all over from beach to rainforest to ATV tours which is why a rental is your best option. Watch your speed and look out for police lol we learned that the hard way!

Lodging

The first time in Puerto Rico we stayed at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino. It was a nice hotel for a great price and a good location! The second time we stayed in between an AirBnB and hotel El Convento in Old San Juan. We would rebook any of the three places we stay again! Both times our locations gave us a different variety of places to explore and things to do. The AirBnB allowed us to budget a little better as it was cheaper for a group, and many things could be done from the home, whereas the hotel gave us an easier more convenient way to be tourists. Since we had access to a concierge desk we were able to find out a lot about activities and nearby restaurants.

Meals

Remember that Puerto Rico is still US territory so US currency is used which means no savings on prices. With that being said, if you are traveling on a budget and booked an AirBnB, then we highly suggest that you go to the nearest grocery and cook! We did a lot of “home cooked” meals on our second trip which really helped with our budget. If you don’t mind spending a bit we totally recommend La Perla! This restaurant is beautiful and sits right off of the water. If you’re going for a birthday, anniversary or to celebrate something special then this is a great option! Dress up and have a nice Oceanside dinner! For breakfast we really enjoyed Café Manolin. The food was delicious and they were open early! It’s not your usual pancakes and eggs, but you will leave satisfied!

Entertainment

Salsa, Salsa, Salsa! Everywhere! One of our favorite places to go was La Placita! It is a block of all bars, restaurants and music. Close your eyes and imagine a huge block party that never stops! Literally from Bar to Bar there were different types of music—bachata, hip hop, salsa, meregnue… you name it and it was somewhere on the block! Old San Juan has an area full of different bars that are more chill but just as fun and it’s right off the water! During the day, Old San Juan has streets full of different shops that sell everything! Need souvenirs? Go there! They even have a party cruise that some of you may be interested in! Also in your day time hours, you must check out El Yunque which is the name of the rainforest and Luquillo Beach. If you can manage to wake up early enough, drive to the ferry and head over to the B E A U T I F U L island Culebra! If you’re looking for more of a thrill try out Toro Verde ziplines—but hold on to your hats, wigs, and cell phones!
